Time control 10 mins all moves. U110 and 110+ entries and prize sections on night!

Events Section

There are a variety of events at Wolverhampton Chess Club. These events occur throughout the year and there are some new events being organised for the near future.

There are also external and league events some of which are listed here with details.

WDCL Trophy Events

BDCL Trophy events

Pittaway Cup

An 8 board knockout tournament starting in September each year, with the final in April. Clubs may enter a team, and there is no grading limit.

Rock Cup and Bidgood Cup

A tournament for individual players.  The event begins in September and ends with the final in April.  After the first round, the competition becomes a knockout tournament where winners in the first round compete for the Rock Cup, and first round losers compete for the Bidgood Cup. Read More

WDCL Lightning

Teams of 4 compete from various clubs in 3 section categories, Trophy, Major and Minor.

The Time limit for each game is 10 seconds per move for the first 40 moves then 5 seconds thereafter for the next 40 moves.

At 80 moves. The clock is stopped and all unfinished games are decided by adjudication.  The adjudicator's decision is final..

WDCL U110

A league knockout competition for teams of 4 that compete for the Humphrey's cup.. Players must be graded below BCF 110.

Terill and Homer Trophies

6 board teams in BDCL Divs 1-4 compete.

Round 1 winners compete for the Terill Trophy and those knocked in the first round go on to compete for the Homer Trophy.

Townshend and Barrington Trophies

are competed for in BDCL Div 5 and below.

Round 1 winners compete for the Townshend l Trophy and those knocked in the first round go on to compete for the Barrington Trophy.

Delighted to announce Club Ladder Tournament commenced 23/07/08.

All rules on display at club and details and rules to appear soon on club website.

It's envisaged that this will be an ongoing continuous event and may be the basis of an internal league for our club.

The Birmingham & District Chess League 12th Rapidplay Including Peter Gibbs trophy will be held on the

Walrus Event

Walrus 2007/8 was held Thurs 22 May 2008 at Wolverhampton Chess Club 7.30pm start. Wolverhampton currently held the Trophy! Could we retain it for another year? Yes.

 

Walrus 2007/8 Wolverhampton win for 2nd consecutive year and retain The Walrus Trophy 2007/8 with 5.5, Walsall 5, Rushall 4.5

Walrus 2006/7 event held at Rushall Mon 30/04/2007 Wolverhampton win for 1st time 2006/7 with 6.5 points 4.5, 4.

 

2005/6 Wolverhampton's 2nd year of participating in this event which was held at Walsall Kipping chess club May 2006..

 

Wolverhampton, Walsall Kipping and Rushall compete in this one night event. The event comprises of a thirty player, fifteen board competition where ten player teams from each club compete for the Walrus Trophy.
