Team Buzzer/Lightning Chess: 03 Feb 2011. Wow so excited to announce this. This event is not to be missed. League Lightning popular but lets find out who's the fastest at our club as we try to emulate electrons!

Autumn Quickplay: Thurs 30 Sept 2010 : 15 mins all moves. Commences 7.30pm.

Event News (theme): Team Chess taster 19 Aug 2010. It's Chess but not quite as we know it. 2 teams of 2 compete. Tremendous pre season fun and great experience.

Simul 02 Sept 2010: Dave Wightman will hold a simul 02/09/10 open to All club members. An event not to be missed. Very excited to have a simul at Wolverhampton Chess Club.

There are a variety of events at Wolverhampton Chess Club. These events occur throughout the year and there are some new events being organised for the near future.

22 Sept 2011 Mike Townsend Simul. (Mike is currently our highest graded player)

17 Nov 2011 Autumn Quickplay. (Postponed) Will Dave Wightman retain his title of Autumn Quickplay Champion.

WDCL Trophy Events

BDCL Trophy events

Pittaway Cup

An 8 board knockout tournament starting in September each year, with the final in April. Clubs may enter a team, and there is no grading limit.

Rock Cup and Bidgood Cup

A tournament for individual players.  The event begins in September and ends with the final in April.  After the first round, the competition becomes a knockout tournament where winners in the first round compete for the Rock Cup, and first round losers compete for the Bidgood Cup. Read More

WDCL U130: Humphrey's Cup

A league knockout competition for teams of 4 that compete for the Humphrey's cup.. Players must be graded below ECF 130.

Terill and Homer Trophies

6 board teams in BDCL Divs 1-4 compete.

Round 1 winners compete for the Terill Trophy and those knocked in the first round go on to compete for the Homer Trophy.

Townshend and Barrington Trophies

are competed for in BDCL Div 5 and below.

Round 1 winners compete for the Townshend l Trophy and those knocked in the first round go on to compete for the Barrington Trophy.

Recent & Forthcoming Events

Sept 01 2011 : Wolverhampton Chess Club All Play All Championship launch. Attention all members and potential members. Dave Wightman launched this very popular club championship! Oladejo Olaleye amassed and astronomical amount of points last year. We had a very good turn out on day 1. Your humble webmaster believed reigning All Play All champion Oladejo Olaleye had vacated to New pastures content at being a great Champion. Champion Ola however saw the website ad and trekked to Wolverhampton to exclaim he intends to wants to defend his crown. Oladejo already probably leads as he notched up two impressive wins against Gordon Sands! The first night was more exciting than a Pro wrestling match and there's much more to come. Watch this space, read updates soon and full standings by Dave Wightman, organiser and participant.

Thurs Sept 22 2011: Mike Townsend Club Simul :Last year Dave Wightman held a simul and the evening was well attended and great fun. Mike Townsend is Wolverhampton Chess Club's highest graded player and I'm delighted to announce that this year it's Mike Townsend's turn to play all members who turn up. This evening is not to be missed and is already shaping up to be an epic night of enjoyable and torrid Chess battles! (7:30pm start).

Thurs Nov 17 2011: Autumn Quickplay. Another exciting not to be missed event. Last Year Dave Wightman and Colin Haughton excelled to become Wolverhampton Chess Club Autumn and Spring Quickplay Champions respectively. Can they triumph again or will another member reign supreme.

Wolverhampton Win Walrus Trophy 2011 on Thurs 5 May 2011 at Wolverhampton. Wolverhampton 7 points, Walsall Kipping 6, Rushall 2.

Thurs July 21 2011: Team Chess Event 15 mins all moves (7:30pm start). A 5 round Swiss individual tournament event. Individuals are randomly paired together at the start of each round and compete as a team of two. Each member of the winning team scores a point and the overall winner is the person, not team, who obtains the highest total on the night. FIDE rules of chess (mostly), arbiter's decision final (definitely), fancy dress optional. On the night anybody caught taking things too seriously may be severely ridiculed. This is an fun not to be missed end of season event! Prizes yet to be determined but could be doughnuts.

It is Wolverhampton Chess Club's fourth consecutive year at the mammoth and popular Wolverhampton, City Show.

Check out our stall and what our Chess Club is about. Play some friendlies with some of our members. Enjoy the outdoor Chess experience and fun at Chess in The Park 2012!!

Years 1, 2 and 3 were utterly fantastic weekends. 2012 is shaping up to be the best yet!

South Wolverhampton and Bilston Academy Community Fun Day

Sat 02 July 2011 : Wolverhampton Chess members played the public and raised money for the Promise Dreams Charity www.promisedreams.co.uk

A great afternoon of chess and fun. Thank you for all who participated and for help from members. The biggest thank you to the South Wolverhampton and Bilston Academy for invited us to their community fun day and making us so welcome. Wolverhampton Chess Club made some money for the Promise Dreams charity.

Great Britain Chess Needs You

 

Walrus Event

Wolverhampton, Walsall Kipping and Rushall compete in this one night event. The event comprises of a thirty player, fifteen board competition where ten player teams from each club compete for the Walrus Trophy.
